Buzios’ Beaches Travel

Friday, May 4th, 2012

For an amazing Brazil beach destination, no place fits the bill more perfectly that Buzios. A small town with a population of approximately 25,000 located just 2 hours north of Rio de Janeiro, it is the perfect getaway from the busyness of the “Marvelous City.”

Buzios is on a small peninsula that sticks out into the Atlantic Ocean. It has over 20 beaches, each of which has different characteristics; they can be divided into 2 major categories. The northern beaches receive the warmer currents from the equator and the waters tend to be crystalline and very calm. In contrast, the southern beaches get the colder Antarctic currents and have big swells ideal for all kinds of surfing.

Travelers can tour the beaches to find the one that suits their preference. This can be accomplished via guided tour or independently, either on land or by water. The following are some of the most popular beaches.

The center of Buzios has a dock and a couple of beaches, namely Armação and Ossos (Bone Beach). From here, the beaches of Azeda and Azedinha are accessible via a short hike from Ossos. Both are small beaches, and the latter is so small that its length can be crossed in 40 steps.

The next beach is João Fernandes, which is popular for its bars and seafood offerings. It’s also a popular spot for beach parties. A few steps inland, there is also a wide variety of accommodations ranging from luxury to budget.

Ferradura is a beach 1.5 kilometers in length and in the shape of a horseshoe. It is ideal for practicing water sports because of its tranquil waters, jet ski and wind surf; For travelers interested in eating and drinking, there are restaurants, bars, small kiosks with food. The beach is surrounded by elegant summer homes. The nearby Ferradurinha is tucked into a rocky cove and has waters so clear and tranquil that it is like a swimming pool. It is perfecting for kayaking or a romantic beach picnic. Both beaches are close to the center of Búzios on the Praia do Canto side.
